2025 Heritage Scholarship

Applications are due by May 3, 2025; scholarships will be awarded in June 2025.

Scholarships will be awarded based on an evaluation of applications received by the deadline. Members of the Toledo-Poznan Alliance Board of Trustees and the Advisory Board of the Northwest Ohio Polish Cultural Center will select the recipients. Scholarships will be made payable by check to the educational institution where the recipient is registered to attend. The scholarship is to assist in paying the expenses of education including tuition, general fees, books and living expenses. One college scholarship worth $1,500 and two high school scholarships worth $625 each will be awarded.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Students in grades 9-11 may enter the high school category; incoming freshmen, upcoming sophomores, juniors and seniors may enter the college category. Former scholarship winners are not eligible to receive another scholarship in the same category, i. e. a high school winner cannot receive another scholarship in the high school category, However the student could reapply and could win in the college category.

2. If a public high school student is awarded a scholarship, funds will be placed in escrow until the students attends college. For private high school winners, the funds will be applied to tuition.

3. Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria: A high school or undergraduate college student of Polish-American heritage enrolled on a full-time basis.

4. Applicants are required to submit an essay at the time of application. Essay requirements are as follows:

High School Category (Grades 9-11) Scholarships

Topic: "What makes you proud to identify yourself as a Polish-American?” Consider many areas of your life - Polish traditions, Polish language, Polish prayers, Polish values, Polish food, Polish music and literature, etc in your paper. Use your own experiences and interview with family members for this 500-word reflective paper.

College Category (Undergraduate Students -incoming freshmen, upcoming sophomores, juniors and seniors)

Topic: "What are the Polish contributions as a member of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)?” Consider such areas a the economy, the environment, trade, defense and justice, etc, in your paper. Use books and online sources for this 1,000 word research paper. Type end notes or sources on a separate sheet of paper.

Both High School and College Students

  • Essay should be written in Microsoft Word format, Time New Roman font, 12 point with 1-inch margins

  • Essay must be double-spaced, use correct spelling and follow rules of grammar.

  • Use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in any form is forbidden. If used, essay will be disqualified,

  • While you may ask for help from teachers, parents and librarians, the essay must be your work.
