A Vision for Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
Our goal is to build a Polish Cultural Center in which ethnic programs, historical exhibits, and cultural education will preserve the Polish heritage of the region. In order to transcend history into future generations of all ethnicities, the center will be a welcoming place through community engagement and economic development across all cultures and ethnicities. This would be the first cultural center operating full time of any kind in northwest Ohio offering multi-cultural programs.
The PCC will be a 10,000 square foot space near the Maumee River, with meeting rooms, a genealogical library, banquet hall, and exhibit space. Through events and programs, NWOPCC will promote interest, awareness, and education about Polish art, heritage, and culture.
We’re ready to begin building community and preserving heritage. We hope you’re ready, too.
From Roots to Roofs:
Building our Cultural Home
Northwest Ohio has had a rich heritage of many nationalities. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, America gave immigrant Polish populations hope of a better life. When Poles trickled into northwest Ohio, word spread to other relatives in Poland. Today, Toledo has the largest Polish population per capita of any city in Ohio.
Even though the Polish-American population in the Northwest Ohio region is strong, we are losing critical spaces and organizations every year – places and events where we can share our heritage and commune together to keep our roots alive. NWOPCC aims to become the space for all to gather and document, memorialize, and promote the strength of the Polish roots in northwest Ohio for the educational benefit of all residents and visitors.
